Do Any LORAN Stations Remain ?

I know the US has discontinued transmitting LORAN signals but its that universally the case? Are any countries still broadcasting or is everyone, world wide, relying on GPS?

Looks like it's gone in Canada as of this past Feb.

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) posted a notice in the Federal Register on January 7 certifying that termination of the Loran-C signal will not adversely affect the safety of maritime navigation and that decommission will begin on February 8 with all Loran stations expected to cease transmitting the Loran-C signal by October 1, 2010.

Perhaps I should have posed this enquiry differently. We have a very reliable RayNav 550 Loran that was rendered inoperable due to the US Government's decision to abandon LORAN as a backup for GPS. I am trying to decide whether to remove the system and simply discard it; or; to remove the unit, but not the antenna system, against the possibility that a future owner might take the yacht to an area where it could be of use. Our system was very reliable and quite accurate once the area corrections were made, routinely giving us positional data that was within 60 feet of the positional data from our WAAS enabled GPS. I do not want to discard a system that some later owner might be able to take advantage of; or, retain a system for which there is no likely future use. (My garage is already overflowing with obsolete electrical devices--anyone interested in a portable Smith Carona Electric Typewriter?)

Any thoughts?

Did you ever figure out an answer for this? I have a loran but don't want to remove it if it can be used outside of North America.

Notwithstanding, I'd expect a LORAN-C receiver to be "next to" useless.

Evidently, in recognition of the fragility of GPS, European LORAN stations remain active and will be utalized to implement a GSP alternative navigation system "EuroFix". Accordingly, I shall dismount our equipment but not discard it against the possibility that our boat may someday return to her original home port in Europe.
