DirecTV Coverage

I have a dish and tuner for DirectTV and would like to know how far south and east their coverage is. I am in Lupron' D. R. Thanks. Pat

Re: DirectTV Coverage

Pat, In the DR you will have no coverage with US DirecTV. We lost half our channels in Georgetown, Bahamas and they dropped off fast south of there. Same going east. You need a four foot dish in Georgetown to pick up all channels and of course any locals are lost once you get from under the footprint for the spotbeam. There is a DirecTV package for the Caribbean but you need a receiver specifically for that. Chuck

Re: DirectTV Coverage

I concur with Chuck, we had coverage to Georgetown. We lost our local channels in the Berry's.

Not sure I understand your question. You get the locals you subscribe for as long as you are under the spotbeam for those locals. Imagine a a light beam coming down from the satellite. As soon as you are out from under that beam you no longer get the locals. The spotbeams are limited but do cover a pretty large area. Chuck

Re: DirectTV Coverage

Once you are out from under the spotbeam you will not get anything until DTV reassigns you locals and you need an address to get them. A little trick is to get a New York address and give it to them. It could be a marina. You will then get the New York locals wherever you are since they are on the main sat. Otherwise you will get everything but locals. Chuck

Re: DirectTV Coverage

don't forget as you get out of the US and into Latin America you will need a new LNB for Latin America. LNBs list price is quite high but if you shop around you can find one. Then you have to sign up for Latin America, which you can do in PR

Having lived on board in Luperon, D.R. you can get DirectTV there but the satellites are very low on the horizon and intervening mountains, etc. can prevent you from receiving anything. Also most DirectTV in the D.R. is "bootlegged" as the service is not authorized for use there. Also since the satellite is so low to the horizon getting a signal on the small antenna is difficult. Look at the dishes on top of the Luperon Yacht Club and you can see that they are rather large.
-- When you get to Puerto Rico you are back "in" but again the USA DirectTV satellite is just too low and far away. DirectTV itself recommends you try DirectTV Latin America for service DIRECTV - La Evolución de la Televisión

Re: DirecTV Coverage

I'm in Port-au-Prince and subscribe to DirecTV from a local provider. A two-meter dish is required to pick up US channels here. We got by with a smaller dish when we were receiving service from a provider in Colombia.
