Depth Sounder Issues

So When I purchased my boat last year the Impulse QT206 screen was not very readable. I thought if a took the plastic cover off over the LED display perhaps I could read it better without having to replace.

Bad idea I cannot read at all, though it was working.

So I just bought a Uniden QT206. I assume since Uniden bought out Impulse and they are both called QT206 and look identical and transponder are 200khz or whatever.

My existing transponder (thru Hull) should be compatible. So I connected new head. And turned on. 0.0 keeps flashing

Now the boat is not in the water.

Does this mean the transponder will not work with it? Or I need to be in Water?

I don't even know how to get at the transponder from inside or where the cable is run and don't want to F*&$ around with a thru hull

I can't see why the existing transponder would not work with it they are both QT206 for Christ sake

I know it was working in the fall

Yes boat must be in water, its actually reading correctly:>)
I like the new airmar that "talks" to other electronics, I can read depth speed and water temp on radar, gps and autopilot screens from one triducer

If you’ve read & understood the manual that came with your new Uniden sounder, particularly Understanding Sonar (page 14), and the Troubleshooting Guide (page 19); you’ll know that you have to be in the water. If it still doesn’t work after relaunch, you’ll have to learn “how to get at the transponder from inside or where the cable is run and don't want to F*&$ around with a thru hull”.

Manual ➥ http://www.uniden.ca/pdf/QT206om.pdf

Fortunately, it’s only* an $80 investment.
Good luck!

* I only use "only" when referring to other people's money.

To test your equipment witht the boat out of the water, fill a pail of water and hold it under the transducer as close as you can get it, check the readout, if all is working there sould be an increase from zero. I performed this function check on a new transduceer install on my boat last year.
