My Garmin unit has an external alarm connection. You can find anything from a pleasant ding, to the most annoying tone for under US $5 at any Radio Shack. The garmin if I remember correctly is a 100ma load.
I mounted the unit at the nav station and is quite audible at the cockpit.

Thanks for that Mario, I'll check 'em out again. The '"experts" at my supplier did'nt mention that.
