Damping period setting for WSO100

Does anyone have a recommended damping period setting the the Maretron WSO100 wind sensor? The default is 1.5 seconds but I find this is too frequent for big seas. I have been slowly working it up and now have it set at 5 seconds (FYI - It is a moving average over the time period). Has anyone else experimented and come up with a good damping period for sailing? I use it frequently for setting my ST6000+ to sail by the apparent wind.
