Curser jumping around and windows popping open in Offshore Navigator

I know we have discussed this but I can't find it...
When I plug in my GPS to my on board laptop (via serial to USB bridge) the curser starts jumping around and windows open and close. I remember it has to do with something like Microsoft Pointer Devise that needs to be disabled (I have done it before). But I can't find it. I thought it was in devise manager under mice and pointer devices but no*Microsoft Pointer Devise there. Where do I need to be looking and what do I need to disable?

What kind of Windoze is festering on your laptop? Mine is infected with XP and it's in the hardware tab in the mouse menu of settings. Perhaps try hardware manager?

If all else fails, remember: "If you can't fix the problem with a normal hammer, it is an electrical problem. Put on rubber gloves and use a larger hammer...."

turn off serial mouse in the device manager - usually does it. There are better ways, and if you plug into a different usb it might come back again.

I have a little program loaded that stops this jumping around (using XP). It's called

Com Port Plug and Play Blocker.

I down loaded it from the internet and had no problems since.

Wow! This brain trust never fails to impress!
Com Port Plug and Play Blocker works like a charm. It sets off all the "unknown publisher" alarm bells but I just went ahead downloaded and ran the program and it works! Hopefully my computer hasn't become part os a bonnet...
THANKS!

Ah, so you have XP. My commiserations, though it could be worse.

I've suffered from the malady since it was released, and found the following site useful to clear up its inherent bugs, as well as check my internet security:

GRC*|*Gibson Research Corporation Home Page**

Mr Gibson writes his stuff in machine code, so it's sleek and fast and simple. I guess his Un P'n'P program does the same, only none of his stuff ever caused me any worries.
