Coursemaster Autohelm

Has anyone had any experience with the Coursemaster Autohelm as far as reliability and quality is concerned.

I have had one for 25 years with no problems at all. Have no experience of newer models but I believe they are well thought of. Regards, Richard

Coursemaster

Thanks Richard. That is encouraging. I am looking at the Linear Hydraulic Ram model. Does your model use the Hydraulic Ram?

John, we drive the shaft that comes out of the rear of our Hydrive helm unit, via a chain. Our Coursemaster drives it through a large steering motor with an electric clutch on the sprocket.
Regards, Richard.

Thanks for the info. I gather it is not working as hard because of the rate gyro. Are you using a Linear Hydraulic Ram?

yes using the old robertson linear hydraulic ram that was part of the old robertson auto pilot.found new cm85i so much easier to set up when switched on for first time than old robertson unit was ( had problems with old one and had to reboot once ).I have spoken to course master help line .technician was very helpful and in his words (we are here to help) so good customer support.

Re: Coursemaster Autohelm

I have cm85i and I think it's the most useless autopilot I've ever come across. It's even marginal if you can call it an autopilot to be honest. It will not apply more than 10deg of helm when it's off course. Sometimes it alarms off course but is applying helm in the wrong direction. If anyone wants to purchase a cm85i contact me please.
