Connecting Raymarine Smartpilot S3 with Zeus 9 Nav Via NMEA0183

I am trying to connect an old Raymarine Autopilot the Smartpilot S3 to a new B&G Zeus 9 navigation system via NMEA 0183. I am receiving heading data from the autopilot on the Zeus 9 but the Zeus 9 still says “no autopilot computer”. It should just plug and play... correct? Are there any other settings that I need to configure in order to detect the autopilot? I have connected to NMEA 1 on the autopilot.

Re: Connecting Raymarine Smartpilot S3 with Zeus 9 Nav Via NMEA0183

It will always say no pilot. Because it's not a new simrad pilot and it can't control it. You should how ever be getting gps and route data on the ray. Create a waypoint. And put the pilot in nav mode. And see if it works.

You will have to engauge / disengage the pilot from the pilot screen.

Also by default. The nmea183 output is turned off in the bng / simrads. So you must check the box.
