Class B AIS recommendations?

Looking for a cheap AIS transponder. Any recommendations?

Re: Class B AIS recommendations?

Raymarine 650 is good with USB into laptop.
But its more expensive than the others.

Good support from raymarine as the unit needed to be replaced TWICE! Fortunately while I was in the USA so shipping was cheap.

If I were a rich kid, at the beginning of a circumnavigation I would buy a Class A. They are about $3,000 and better. Longer range, text capable etc.

The Simrad unit we used was OK but it did not show MOB devices. Possibly newer software solved this.

I think any black-box combo with i70 Ray display would be a nice kit.

I've had a tone of problems with the EmTrak B100. I've been trying to work through them with tech support but its been going on for 9 months.

I purchased a EmTrak B100 prior to a recent trip from California to Cabo and back. The transponder works faultlessly throughout, with great range. Very inexpensive security.

Re: Class B AIS recommendations?

Can recommend the B100.

We have one since more than a year.
It had some teething problems in the beginning, but with the latest firmware it runs smoothly.
Outstanding and very helpful technical service.

Be careful if using the USB connection. We had some outages of the signal due to the connector. Solution was to put a small wedge under the plug to hold it firmly in the connector.
But this is something to be expected with USB and a marine environment.

The Raymarine and some other Class B transponder are OEM sisters of the B100.

Re: Class B AIS recommendations?

Emtrak B100 is available online for US$475. Pretty cheap and works pretty well.
