Chartplotter price disconnect

Garmin echoMAP 50s: $349 at West Marine.
Garmin GPSMAP 547xs: $789 at WM.

As far as I can tell the only really significant difference is echoMAP 50s does not have NMEA 2000. Does NMEA 2000 justify more than $400 price difference?

Re: Chartplotter price disconnect

Perhaps the less expensive one is on sale or about to be discontinued. Look up the list price on the Garmin website.

And if you're looking to actually buy one you can usually get a far better price from an on-line vendor. BOE is one.

Re: Chartplotter price disconnect

The echoMap 50s is around $800 in Aus while the GPSMAP547sxs is around $1000, so that $349 looks like a good deal.

Re: Chartplotter price disconnect

Knowing Garmin, it's likely it's been discontinued and no longer supported.
Last boat I had a 740S combo, loved the thing, now I understand it's no longer supported, and it was new five years ago?

Re: Chartplotter price disconnect

The price of the 547xs includes charts. With the 50s you have to buy those separately.

It is on sale but the echoMAP 50s list price is still $390 less than the GPSMAP 547xs.

I'm not familiar with BOE--could you post a link?

50s "is preloaded with Garmin U.S. coastal BlueChart cartography" --from the description on the West Marine web site.

Sure:

BOE Marine - Marine Electronics, GPS, Radar, Fishfinders, Autopilots, FLIR, SAT TV

I bought my Garmin stuff from them. It's been a few years but they have good prices and you can call them on the phone for expert advice. They don't just sell stuff, they install it if you want (and are close).

We have had nothing but positive experiences with Hodges Marine. Their prices are also very competitive.
