I'm not sure you can. With Standard Horizon sets and another (forgotten which) to change it, it needs to be returned to manufacturer.

Re: Changing MMSI DEBEG3818

Cuza,
My understanding is the Debeg 3818 is just the DSC modem (controller) for a MF/HF Radio....it is NOT the radio, but rather it is JUST an external DSC Modem.... i.e. a 100-buad FSK modem, with specific messages (DSC messages) preprogrammed into it....
So, unless you have the other gear to go with it, it is unlikely to be of any use to you, even if you reprogram the MMSI#...

The user manual is available on-line....
http://www.seefunkschule.at/training/3818.pdf

http://rofficer.narod.ru/docs/db3818.htm

Also be aware that there a Debeg 3818 for sale on ebay right now, for only $35 USD....
"buy it now" for $35...in “Great used condition pulled from working environment”
So, I hope you didn't pay too much for it...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/DEBEG-DMT-IN...-/311297802850

And, if you read German / Austrian German (and/or maybe Bulgarian), you can also find the service manuals, etc. as well...
You may also be able to find their old website, etc...
http://m em bers.eunet.at/seefunk

If you have no luck with the above, check commercial maritime radio shops / service centers near you / in your country (wherever you are)....

You may also look into contacting Sailor / Thrane&Thrane / Cohban....as they may actually know about this unit....(Cohban has bought / bought-out Skanti, Sailor, Thrane, etc....and may have also bought/absorbed Debeg???)
And, the Debeg stuff looks a lot like the old classic Sailor stuff, so they may have just copied the Sailor design.....firmware and software as well....so if all else fails, have a go using the Sailor operating/programming procedures...

Not sure if this is helpful, but this is all I can do from here...
(but, like I wrote above....the 3818 is just the external DSC controller, not the radio, so unless you've got the rest of the gear it might not be of much use to you...)

Fair winds...

John

Many of these items with MMSI in the US are regulated as not changeable by the user. AIS is one for example. The device may need to go to the manufacturer's service site or perhaps they can help you directly.

Nicholson,
While this is true to some extent, most dealers have the software to reprogram things....(proAIS being an example)

But regardless, the Debeg 3818 is an older (1990's) European external DSC modem, used to make older MF/HF transceivers GMDSS compliant.....and as far as I know never sold in the US...

Just wanting to clarify things a bit...
Fair winds..

You will change the MMSI in the radio, not the modem. What HF radio do you have?
