canadian epirb registration

An epirb came with my boat. Don't know, but doubt it was registered, though I intend to upgrade to a 406 which I'd want to register.

I am Canadian, so is my boat, even if its never been there. I suppose I simply go here:
http://beacons.nss.gc.ca/Logon.asp?lang=e and sign up.

Question: Do I need to buy the epirb in Canada, since I suspect there's a little programming involved? If so, can anyone recommend a good, reliable online source?

cheers
jim

Our boat came to us with a Canadian/British registered 406 Epirb.

I called NOAA which is the place to register Epirbs in the US. I was told that I could not register the ID number of my Epirb as it is a Canadian/British number.

I called the factory and they said it is routine to reprogram Epirbs to each countries format.

Suggest you specify which country you are going to register with when ordering the unit.

Good to know, Jemsea. Thanks.
I guess I just have to talk to the seller of the epirb to make sure I can get a Canadian number.
Also didn't realize epirbs could be Canadian/British registered -- don't know if it's an advantage to be registered in both but will have to look into it.
cheers,
Jim
