Can I test an autohelm ST50 wind gauge without detaching the transducer from the mast

I have an old autohelm ST50 wind gauge and the operation of the wind direction needle is clearly faulty. It fluctuates all over the dial. The LCD wind speed indicator appears to be operating correctly and hence I suspect the gauge itself and not the masthead transducer.

I am trying to isolate the fault which is either in the wind gauge, in the cabling or in the masthead transducer. For reasons of accessibility it is easiest to test the wind gauge first. Is there some way in which I can test the wind gauge on a workbench without needing to detach the transducer from the masthead?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, but you need to provide an 8V dc supply.

Thanks Capn Dan for your reply. I have a variable DC supply which I can set to 8V. I don't have any idea which are the plus and minus DC supply pins on the gauge or how I would test whether the wind direction indicating mechanism is faulty or whether the fault is in the masthead transducer.

Any guidance you can offer would be most appreciated.

regards
Gary
