Our new-to-us
boat came equipped with an old "concrete block"
vhf radio that works as a
radio but lacks many modern features. One of the features it has is a Hail function but it doesn't
work; no sound comes out of the hailer bullhorn.
We have a second
VHF radio, much more modern, that does not have a Hail button but it does have a button for Intercom. According to the manual, the Intercom function allows using the mic to broadcast to people over speakers in other
parts of the
boat (like the salon). That Intercom circuit isn't currently hooked up to anything.
Is there any reason why the Intercom output couldn't or shouldn't be hooked up to an external PA/Hailer bullhorn-style speaker? Would there be enough wattage to make it
work? Or are there hailer bullhorn speakers that need very little wattage?
