Burglary Alarm Systems - Any Ideas ?

hi, I am new in the forum, a friendly hallo to all!

I am not quite a sailer, yet! , but as one I live in a fibre glass RV andI am getting an upgrade soon which I bought in Japan.

With this one I got the same problem now as you guys, I leave it alone at strange unattended places and it's easy to break in, simple one point door lock and slide windows. There is even a large service door at the bathroom, you break that open with the smallest screw driver.

Wondering if you people have a reliable motion sensor alarm system (sensors for cabin and camper, keyless activation and a noisy horn) that you can recommend?

I know, I asked in caravan forums, they seem to use more passive systems, except for probably a few newer coaches.

any info is highly appreciated

Chris

Our companion way steps pop off, so we remote those and have a little string setup with some cutlery that makes a big rattle if someone steps across it. I'll hop out of this thread before someone brings up the subject that never dies.

I grew up with dogs, to make it work you have to keep them wet

Re: Burglary Alarm Systems - Any Ideas ?

Obviously a motion sensor system like what is found on a car will not work. It needs to be a type of infrared motion detector like what is used in a driveway to light up the flood lights or a light beam detector that sounds when the light beam is broken.

I don't have any specific recommendations. I would look on Amazon for 12 volt detectors that connect in to your boats batteries so that if someone disconnects the shore power cable then it still works.... until the batteries die at least.

You have to realize that all most alarm systems do is make people upset about the noise. You might want to rig up a system that calls your cell phone so at least you can go out to your boat when sounds so your poor neighbors do not have to listen to it for a long time. Sorry if I sound cynical but that's how I see it.

Getting on my soapbox here, I would like to see a 3 minute law that requires audible alarms to go silent after three minutes. If a crook has not ran off by then, they are not going to.

thanks Ram, Spot Hug looks solid, but is quite a bit towards tracking the boat and progress, and personal safety.
It has 4 ports to connect to sensors.

I read those infra red sensors alert to often for no reason and that there is an alternative sensor system somewhere out there which is more predictable.

Re: Burglary Alarm Systems - Any Ideas ?

I have had pretty good luck with this (click here) Ryobi motion detector. I have it mounted by my mast in the cabin and only arm it when I go to bed.

Luckily, have never had it go off in the night.

Re: Burglary Alarm Systems - Any Ideas ?

I read some where of someone who had a sensor (don't what type) when activated produced the sound of an angry doberman. I think that would do it.

Re: Burglary Alarm Systems - Any Ideas ?

Wow, I was looking at alarm systems and was going to post one thing that I found:

From Aqualarm: https://www.aqualarm.net/comerus/sto...?idProduct=128

Then from Amazon: Amazon.com: Skylink SC-100 Security System Deluxe Kit: Home Improvement

Notice any similarity?

Geez, the marine business is such a bunch scammers. Think I could pay for my cruising simply by opening a webstore and randomly reselling stuff at 200% markup with a "marine" stamp on it....

Re: Burglary Alarm Systems - Any Ideas ?

I like the idea of the cameras that are sold by people who supply hunters. They have infrared capability's and all. Hoist it up the mast and after the fact, there are photos. Not too much on prevention. A big sign saying " LOUD ON-BOARD ALARM SYSTEM " might help.
