Batelco Coverage In The Exumas Chain

Can anyone comment on Bahamas Telecommunications Company's cell coverage presently in the Exumas chain and Berry Islands? We will be cruising there for 4-5 months and are trying to determine when and where we can contact our family via cell phone.

Also, can you get a WiFi connection in the same area? We have it installed and use Skype frequently in the US.

Thanks for the help!!!

You can if you rent or buy a Batelco cell phone. I should warn you that Batelco is the worst run and most expensive telcom in the northern hemisphere. Your best bet is a phone card (Batelco of course) and Skype where wifi is available. In the Exumas wifi is available at Sampson. Staniel and Georgetown. It may be better this season. We live in hope. We don't stay long in the Berrys so I don't know what's available in Chubb.

Everything I've read concurs with your opinion of Batelco, but we must live with what's available. Sat phones are out of our price range, so it sounds like a Batelco phone with a prepaid card and Skype is it.
