Basics

Ive just installed an Icom 802 with auto tuner. Ive read through the books, looked on line, and Im finding it very difficult to understand the basics of operating the radio. Is there someone out there with this radio that could walk me through the basics of:
1. How to get AM stations?
2. How to tune/find/program the HF Radio scheds (Australian BOM, I have frequencies)
3. How to (is it possible) to change the radio so you can dial through frequencies or scan in AM mode rather than going from channel to channel?

Any help appreciated. I do have basic radio knowledge, have taken an amateur course, but do not have any practical experience using this radio.
Thanks
Rozzie

Re: ICOM 802 BASICS

Ok I found the SOLUTION
The problem:
When the radio comes from the dealer, it is not in the mode to change/program channels. In my book it says how to change the preprogrammed channels, but when I follow instruction, the unit does not respond.

After looking online I found the solution..(and the problem)
While the radio is off: Hold down the 2, mode, & TX keys, then power the radio on.
Then... you can hit the RX clr button and will then be in the mode to change frequencies on channels you don't need/use, and use the dial to change rather than be stuck in channel mode, and save the new frequency to the channel. In my case, my radio is from the US, but I am in Australia so need to program some different frequencies.
Funny that they don't put that in the book!

Because technically, it is illegal (U.S. FCC rules) to transmit on frequencies or frequency bands not authorized on the staion license. Icom provides the information on how to "open" the radio on their website, they just can't put it in the manual due to regulations.

Thanks mate
Had same problem with new radio. And forgot about it...Now I know.
Also my AIS was not programmed with boat details from the store.
Unable to program with "USA" software -Raymarine told me to return it to dealer. But found a "European" version of the software - now ok.
Too many bloody lawyers here...
I wasn't able to buy beer yesterday - had no ID - I'm 47...
