Re: B&G V50 radio issues

I'm fairly certain that the "DSC call from the plotter" option is only for the 2nd Generation plotters. My Zeus T7 doesn't seem to have the ability either and I did do some investigating on the subject.

Re: B&G V50 radio issues

Does anyone have know of a change log for the software update that's more specific than the fact that it adds MFD DSC calling and "additionally a number of software improvements have been implemented"? We have an RS35 and HS35 with intermittent bugs (stops scanning randomly, causes bus errors on startup, etc.). If the update addresses those I'd like to do it, but I don't want to go through the trouble of traveling to a dealer mid-season to get the HS35 updated if I'll still have the same problems afterward.

Re: B&G V50 radio issues

The update includes the DSC call fuction from the Evo2 ploters. Some other fixes are listed below.

Channel scan pausing
AIS vessel names reported over NMEA2000 incorrectly
Alarming for own MMSI number
and NMEA2000 network improvements.

Updating the wireless handsets is not critical but you may see some funny characters due to font mismatches. but it will not affect the handsets performance.

Thanks! The "own ship" MMSI identification is a must-have for me. I didn't notice an AIS vessel name problem, but I'd want that fix, too.

I do have some ability to connect my laptop to my N2K bus via my Vesper AIS.

Anyone know if this would be sufficient to do an update in place, or am I stuck ripping the thing out and dragging it to a dealer?

Its worth a try. That software update tool I linked earlier should work if you can connect to the N2K Bus. But no guarantees.

If not, do you know anyone who has a Navico system you could plug in to to run the update? Any Simrad, B&G or Lowrance MFD would work.

Re: B&G V50 radio issues

Any issues with interference when the engine is running? Seriously considering the V50/H50. One person has told me that the H50 had a lot of noise in it while the engine was running. Just wondering if this is a common issue

Ours does not have any interference issues with the engine running. However I would say that the TX audio is not as clear as on the wired mic, just based on using the automated radio check system, although it's certainly not terrible.
