B&G software upgrade (first time...help!)

Hey, I have had the B&G Zeus Touch for 4 years and need to upgrade the software. I have downloaded the file onto an SD card, but when I install it, the MFD does not read it, and I can't figure out how to get it to pull up. Anyone go through this can help me out? Google search is not my friend today

Re: B&G software upgrade (first time...help!)

Not sure if this will help, but I had similar issues with my Zeus 2 recently. I reached out to B&G tech support and one thing they mentioned is that the Zeus 2 would not read an SD card larger than 32GB.

I was also finally able to get the system to recongize the update by going to system reset and selecting only the local option - again at B&G's suggestion. That finally got the upgrade to apply.

Awesome!! I'm trying these now. The SD card I was using was 64 GB. I have one that's 8 GB. WHO KNEW?!

Well, who knew! It booted right up from the 8 GB disk.

So glad to hear that you were able to get it to work. It would be nice if B&G could include the SD card limitations somewhere in their written or on-line documentation

Re: B&G software upgrade (first time...help!)

Boy do I agree with that last comment.

I purchased a new Bahamas C-Map set for my Zeus 12T yesterday. Downloaded to a 16 gb card. Inserted the card and when I read it from files it shows as an executable .exe file but the system only allows you to rename, copy or delete.

I would very much appreciate any ideas on how to apply a chart update. The manual gives software update info but nothing re chart updates.

Neither the GoFree or B&G web sites seem to have clear directions for this install.

Re: B&G software upgrade (first time...help!)

The instructions for an update are in PDF format on the B&G site in the support section. Spend some time digging. You will need to rename the file extension from an .exe to .upd then reboot.

Concerning the SD size limitation, I think it is most likely that these units require a FAT32 file system which is limited to 32GB. Windows will use exFAT32 for larger sized drives. Not sure about Apple but I am guessing the same thing.

There are utilities on the web to format drives larger than 32GB in Fat32, I used it do format a thumbdrive that holds music and is plugged in to a B&G Sonic Hub. Instructions say the max drive size is 32GB, I have a 512GB drive formatted Fat32 and it works great.

Just FYI if you have the GoFree Wifi device, I do find it's simply easier to update the plotter from the internet, assuming you have local connectivity.

Re: B&G software upgrade (first time...help!)

I am so appreciative of Idimini responding to the problem I had the other day - on a Sunday so no B&G tech support. As I was searching for the answer, I had come across a news item from B&G that said 45% of boat owners don't update their software. It's kinda no wonder. I'm a lititle baffled, too, as to why the latest file update for my Zeus Touch is from 2014. It seems these would be issued more regularly. This is one email notice I'd like to recieve because I'd just give up checking for updates when they're this few and far between.
