B & G Auto pilot Calibration fails.

I have a old "B & G Network Pilot" auto pilot. Due to extensive alterations on my boat, it requires re-calibration. I followed the steps in that manual and made about 12 attempts today, taking care to be precise in the execution thereof, but they all resulted in "fail" outcomes. Can anyone advise what could be the cause? Thank you.

I had a similar issue.
There was a lose wire leading into the autopilot motor. Once this was addressed the unit calibrated perfectly.

Re: B & G Auto pilot Calibration fails.

The fluxgate compass needs to be in a location with little magnetic interference. You may have inadvertently increased the local field because you have added electrical wiring, rerouted something etc.

The new NMEA2000 compasses show the local field % which is recommended to be < 20% of the earth field. It is amazing how much "damage" a new install does -- even a new appliance a meter away already changed the field in my boat dramatically. My compass is now higher up under a bathroom sink, with the strict condition of no electric toothbrushes allowed in that bathroom!!
