B&G are Tying to Sink our Boat!

We have 3 B&G Triton T41 displays that have had a problem since new. They randomly go blank when the lighting on them is set at level 2 in night mode. Only that level and only in night mode.

So I returned all 3 of them for replacement (B&G doesn't repair these things anymore).

B&G sent me 4 replacements.

I returned the one extra they sent me, and they immediatly sent me 4 more units.

So I am now sitting here with 7 Tritons, of which I have only paid for 3.

I am afraid of returning the extra 4 because they will probably then send me 12 in exchange. I can see where this geometrical progression will quickly result in our boat sinking under the shear weight of B&G Triton displays.

Unlike Dockhead, we keep our electronics in check enough that our waterline is not above our portholes.

So I have two questions for the international part of this forum:
1. Navico, a Dutch company, bought out B&G, an English company. Maybe my problem is language, so does anyone know which native language I should shoot for?

2. Being US educated, my math only went as far as 1 (big ass anchor), 6 (pack), 9 (mm) and 17 (bullets in a Glock clip). Nothing in between and nothing further. Some say that we have 0 (common sense), but we don't recognize that number. So maybe it is a math problem - can someone explain the British and Dutch math systems as related to this case?

Thanks for your help

Mark

Two problems:
1. my wife, who doesn't have the proper perspective on this like you and I do

2. B&G will likely go postal ape about this in the future - just when we are in some isolated area.

Re: B&G are trying to sink our boat!

First, the electronic problem - did the new displays resolve the problems? Hope so.

The over-supply? well, most people complain when they don't get any or insufficient response. So count your blessings.

I had something similar happen recently, where the wrong item (of a higher value) was shipped, instead of what I ordered. I simply sent them a note (via their online support form) about what had happened, and asked them how they would like to resolve this. They sent me a set of instructions and a postpaid return label to return the mis-shipped item, they resent the correct item... and order was restored. It's also important to speak with someone senior and/or human, who will understand and give you solid feedback.

Send them an email or letter, carefully explain what has happened, and ask them for return instructions, which might include an RMA number.

Re: B&G are trying to sink our boat!

I won't know about the display problem until I return to the boat with them.

Yes, they gave me an RMA for the first extra display, but then shipped me another 4 displays when they received the return!

From another company, I ordered and paid for 2 digital hour meters and received 4!

This is my lucky shopping trip, I guess. Let's hope Suzuki sends me two outboards!

A year ago, I ordered and paid for an 80A Balmar alternator (from Balmar) and they sent me a 120A one. Since I was in Central America, shipping it back and shipping in the correct one wasn't really an option, so Balmar told me to just keep the 120A. Problem was that I have a single belt and it would not run on it. So Balmar shipped me a free MC-614 regulator so I could de-rate the 120A alternator to 80A.

Now THAT is good customer support and service!

Do you think B&G will just let me keep the other 4 Tritons?

Maybe someone over on the "make money while cruising" thread has an opinion?

I think your history of over supply is odd of course. Us mortals usually suffer with "less than".

But three! Really? Three? Lets see. Helm, chart table and master?

Maybe they figured that at least one out of those four should work fine?

No, you would probably just get 14 Corollas...

Navico seems well prepared for the task at hand:
LEIF OTTOSSON - Navico President and Chief Executive Officer
... holds a BSc (magna cum laude) in Finance and Mathematics from Northern Arizona University

Problem must be at the B&G HQ (Loc. is Lymington which received the accolade of 'best town on the coast' in the UK <lol>)

yes they can be noisy yes they fill up Europe's highways with their caravans but I can tell you they are efficient!

Hilarious.

I have five Tritons, and need two more. So if you fail to return them after repeated good faith attempts, sell me two cheap, ok?
