Autopilot for Block Island 40

i am considering installation of an autopilot on my Block Island 40, built by metalmast. Any advice from BI40 owners or other knowledgeable sources appreciated.

In general the boat model is not the deciding factor in the autopilot but the planned usage for the boat, steering system and budget.

So do you plan day sailing and an occasional weekend to Block Island and have a limited budget OR are you planning to sail non stop, solo around the world and have unlimited funds?

It has been a long time but....

So did you install the autopilot ?
If so how did that go for you?

I just looked at a Block 40 "Swan"
Have you considered solar or wind generator also?

yes installed some years ago with raymarine products. a little finnicky and had to rebuild the linear drive once -- under warranty -- but otherwise reliable

I was wondering if it is feasible on a Block island 40.

Re: Autopilot for Block Island 40

The Block Island 40 is a beautiful boat. I cannot imagine mucking up her lines by adding a bunch of solar panels and a wind generator. I think a couple of semi-flex panels on the bimini are about all you can do with a clear conscience.

Re: Autopilot for Block Island 40

I agree it has the lines...
I am even arguing with myself about a cape horn windvane.
Circumnavagating solo do not see an option. I would like to do it nonstop but that is looking may not be realistic..

At the most will go with the flex panels on the bimini.
