Autopilot Drive Unit

Hi Guys,

Looking to replace a very aged looking drive unit for our autopilot.

The boat is a 13,000 Kg Hood 38. Currently has a Raymarine EV400 with a old looking Hydraulic linear drive unit.

Should I be looking to a mechanic linear or hydraulic linear?

Cheers

AG

Re: Autopilot Drive Unit

With hydraulic brand doesn't matter, the pump just acts on the current sent to it from the control unit, it doesn't have any fancy electronics. It's just a simple reversing pump attached to a ram.

You can always go the way of separates and get a hydraulic pump and separate ram. That might offer more mounting options.

Could it be that your old drive is a Lecomble & schmitt ? They offer rather inexpensive repair/maintenance kits. For your boat the model would probably be a 40ST16.
