Autohelm 6000

Does anyone have a schematic for a autohelm 6000 or a course computer they want to sell?
Thanks

I have a complete autohelm 6000 with a linear drive that I removed from my boat when I bought it 6 years ago. I have not got around to selling it yet. I would not consider selling the individual components. If you are interested, then you can PM me.

Starfish,
Thanks for the reply...I already tried raymarine. they only have teh manuals but no schematics and no parts. They said there are no parts available to the circuit boards and the course computer and control need to be replaced as a system.

They're trying to sell you a board. If you know your board has a problem, then take it to a guy who can check the chips. I had a Mosfet chip fail (in Fiji!) and a guy I couldn't even communicate very well with was able to test the chips (no charge) identify the one that was bad, and then replace the chip when I had ComNav send me a new one ($15 for the solder work. Don't ask me what it cost to FedEx the chip from Vancouver to Fiji.)

Starfish,
My buddy and I are engineers and already replaced all the transistors. The problem is that the originals are discontinued and not available anymore, so we had to find replacements which are close to the original specs. The problem is even the replaced transistors blow after a short time so there may be other problems which are not easy to fix without a schematic. The only thing that keeps me going trying to fix it, is that it does work for short periods after all the transistors are replaced. This coupled with the fact that there are no original parts available anymore for this unit is making it very difficult to repair.

You're way more advanced than I am electrically if you can work on your own boards. My soldering generally isn't so hot. I guess the real issue you have to deal with is why the transistors are blowing. My only thought on that is to make sure your steering (I'm assuming a wheel) is free and not causing too much resistance. Other than that, obvious corrosion on the PCB somewhere. GOOD LUCK!

Autohelm 6000

I have a Series One Autohelm system and the head went bad. I located an ST 6000+ head unit that was supposed to be compatible but it turns out my computer is a Series one with four wires output and the new head is SeaTalk. As of now it looks like I need either an older head or a newer computer. anyone of help. I might be interested in the computer of the 6000 system offered if it is a series Two.

thanks, Jay

Hey Jay

Is that right i forgot all about looking here for an autopilot. I still would like an autohelm computer and cant remember exactly what you want for it or what you were offering, i made an offer on one of two (yours?) and never heard back. Assumed my offer disgusted you (not you?).
Still interested though i also met a guy last night in a bar - its true! Who says he has one in his garage. Havnt followed it up yet but im following all the leads in the hope that one day this autopilot will work again. Also bought a wheel pilot on ebay as a back up.

Well, I never had one for sale, so your offer was ok by me. I too am looking for a Series Two Computer. It was SVH2OBO that was offering a complete system. I have a great system, just no controller. If you find a computer, or someway to hook up a Series One Computer to an ST6000+ head, or even an older 6ooo head unit, let me know at capitolareef@yahoo.com.

good luck,

Jay

On second thought

If I do find a new computer, would you be interested in the old, series one that I do have? It seems to work fine.

Hello guys- I too am looking for an early version Autohelm 6000 control head- if there's any member of the group that has one in his sock drawer (or has a suggestion as to any consignment shops that might stock them) I'd be most grateful for a pointer. Many thanks!
