Autohelm 4000 repair

Is anyone familiar with replacing components of an Autohelm 4000 wheel drive unit with newer components from the ST4000+ and any associated benefits other than just keeping the older autopilot working?

Re: Autohelm 4000 repair

I am in my 5th year with 2000 Catalina 36 MK2. Autohelm is now 18 years old and has been working very well until last week. Started popping out of auto to stand by and giving off error code WHL. What does WHL mean? It is time to service the unit.
A) how do you separate the two halves of the wheel? I don’t want to force and break anything.
B) other sources (you tube) mention replacing internal components (bogey wheels, drive belt, cleaning and lubrication): where did you buy replacement parts?
Your experience would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: Autohelm 4000 repair

Go into dealer setup and choose another model then go out of dealer setup. Then go back into dealer setup and choose ST4000 and go out of it again. Then see if this fixes the problem.

My ST4000 was prone to memory corruption after thunder storms and this procedure was the fix. When you change the model in dealer setup the processor loads a different program overwriting the corrupted program. Then when you change it back to ST4000 it overwrites the previously loaded program with an un-corrupted version of the ST4000 program.

Re: Autohelm 4000 repair

If the wheelpilot motor itself is working, I believe the control can be replaced with a new version.
