Autohelm 1000 Tiller Connection

A few years ago I purchased a used Autohelm 1000. It came with the bits to fit it to the boat but no tiller fittings. I see the "Pin" with a ball at the top advertised on eBay which fit's into the hole in the end of the Autohelm shaft. I also see a "Shoe" that can be set into a hole drilled into the tiller.

Questions: Can the ball ended pin be fixed into the tiller and the ball rotate in the black plastic end or does the pin need to rotate in a fitting in the tiller? Or of course, both?

I've seen threaded ball ended pins and I could drill and tap a hole into the tiller and epoxy it in?

The pin does not have to rotate within tiller. It only rotates in the hole in the autohelm bar.
In fact when I installed it I did not even buy a special pin. Iused a screw with sort of rounded head that I chose so that it fits the hole in the autohelm and snaps well so that it goes in and out with some resistance.

Many thanks. That's what I was hoping. I don't think I have a suitable "Domed" head like screw or bolt, so I'll probably opt for a D001 pin or the threaded version and set it in epoxy. Thanks again . . . .
