ATSC Broadcast TV Antenna

I seen some were made by people and they say it works well.
Now these designs are UHF HDTV antennas but what do you do for stations broadcasting in VHF?

The antenna has 7 inch long 'v' spaced along the board.
So has anyone made this for the boat?

The only antenna you need to receive over the air digital, which is also HD if broadcast, is an antenna capable of receiving both UHF and VHF signals. Yes there are still a few being broadcast over VHF. Any antenna being sold for more money is simply a marketing ploy. A signal booster is effective for receiving broadcasts if you are in fringe areas. Chuck

The signal you receive has nothing to do with whether or not it's B/W, color or HDTV.
It's strictly a matter of what frequency it's being sent.
The antenna elements are "tuned" to the receiving frequency by their lengths.
The rest is as has been said, marketing BS.
Rabbit ears will work just as well with HDTV as with an analog signal.
If it was bad before, it will be bad now. If it was good, same thing.

The digital signals are line of sight, you need to have your antenna lined up with the broadcast line. The old analog signals were scattered and easier to pull in even if off the broadcast line a bit If there is a barrier of some kind, such as a mast, then you will have signal loss.
There are antenna "boosters" to help widen the signal reception area, most look like a wire rack. They do work, but are "tuned" also. Life is good if all the stations send their signals from the same tower. If not you need to rotate your antenna to pick up each one.
The over the air signal is really sharp, getting it takes a little work.

The only difference in an antenna for hd or analog is that the elements that are tuned for the channels below old channel 7 is no longer necessary. Those are a couple of the longest......BUT that said if you have an old one I can say that they work perfectly. (I have had the same one up for 30 year's and it's still great.) The newest antennas that will eventually come doun the pipe will be without the longest elements though because the hd tv's pick up the lowest channels in the uhf range and then display them on vhf. I think the pic is nice but hd wasn't worth the price of the new tv and the agro of weaker stations and pixxxxxxxxilated channels. I didn't mind watching with snow, who cared, but that's all gone now and since OTA user numbers are low it doesn't affect most people soooo. To answer your question yes what you had as a drawing works but the shorter the antenna the shorter your range. Even rabbit ears still work.
