I believe it is radio detection and ranging.

Strygaldwir,

You're correct. Had to check my "Navigator's Guide to Radar " by H. Neville Davies (1955). Guess my memory's shot. Of course the first radar I saw at sea was housed in the "Radar room" which was the size of a small cabin, about 8'x 8'. They all had solid waveguides. I guess we've come a long way.

Yellow Alert?

Yellow Alert,

Yeah, and if that guy who wants to design something old into something new. That's cool!

I just hope that he understands, that if he isn't careful. He could end up microwaving his entire body. Cooked from in the inside. And to the outside of the body last? End result: Cooked Sailor Ala Carte!

Regards,

Kevin

Jim Lee, have you considered buying a used unit, and trying to modify it to suit your needs? Might be more practical than reinventing the wheel.

Wow!Sorry, was away from the forum for a few months there. Didn't realise that this thread was still going on.

I shelved the entire radar idea for now. I'm on to other pointless endevours. (Moving to the PNW for one)

The idea for building my own radar was something I wanted to do just for fun. Not like I had any illusions that I'd be able to build something useful for my boat right out of the garage.

Anyway thanks again for all the info. I really do appreciate it.

Kinda like turning around in a crowd in mid sentence to realize the person you were talking to is gone
Enjoy the PNW! Wood boat mecca!
