AIS App for IPad

Greetings fellow cruisers!

Looking for a free AIS/MMSI tracking app so that we can share our position with our family back home.

I've seen some discussion on here but my search turns up too many threads with 10000 posts! Can't seem to get 'vesseltracker' working it still shows the former MMSI with the vessel stationary in Singapore. We are now in Thailand and have re-registered in Canada and changed the AIS over by reprogramming it.

Thanks!

Re: AIS App for IPad

Marinetraffic.com is a free website that displays AIS tracks.

However it's limited to AIS tracks collected and repeated by volunteer sites around the world... and that may be why you're not showing up.

Go to the website, look to see where nearest collection sites are; if none nearby, that might explain.

Try www.APRS.fi

Amateur radio position reporter, but also shows boat AIS positions when the correct website filters are used.

See "stations currently moving".
Look for the boat icons, or enter the boat name/callsign to search.

Hope it works for you.

Re: AIS App for IPad

I agree with Marinetraffic.com. Great AIS app. We pick up our boat when I have the AIS on near shore and always check what big ships are coming into port, Grenada. Very inexpensive.
