Air conditioner problem

I have a 1994 SeaRay 290 and I am having an issue with my air. When I first turn it on it has a strong electrical draw and trips the breaker. I have replaced the pump and the hose and strainer. I put an amp probe on the March pump and it is drawing normal current so I think it has something to do with the head end pressure switch. Any ideas?

Ohm out the compressor then check all the minor things.

Re: Air conditioner problem

Try disconnecting the compressor cooling fan during startup. When they get old and worn then can have a high enough initial draw to do this when the compressor and pump as starting at the same time.

Compressor cooling fan?
Maybe the air handler fan? A trick is to turn unit to fan only, then once it's up to speed turn the thermostat to cool, bringing the compressor on. Most modern units though do this already, but maybe this is an older unit?
I have seen inadequate water flow through the condenser cause pressures to rise and with the higher pressure of course the compressor draws more amps, then the CB trips.. That manifests itself as a gradual increase in amps though over a minute or so, not high amp right off.
