Active Captain on Android

I just downloaded "ActiveCaptain Locations" for my tablet expecting to see the great marina and anchorages I see when using the website ( https://activecaptain.com/X.php ), but I'm not seeing them --- Am I using the correct app?

I did briefly see other boaters on the map, but it dissapered after a couple seconds... what is going on???

Re: Active Captain on Android

Jeff published something several weeks ago on the topic... can't remember details, something about the "Companion" or some such, I think... but you might find a "reprint" of all that somewhere in the main AC website.

Otherwise, a typical approach is to download one of the many nav apps that integrates AC data. We happen to use MX Mariner (NOAA raster charts) and Plan2Nav (C-Map vector charts) and both integrate AC data seamlessly.

Also, there are lots of threads on other nav apps for Android that integrate AC data.

Re: Active Captain on Android

IIRC, Jeff said the issue was with the app requiring a Flash player, which won't run on an Android device. They are apparently working on a version of the app that won't require the Flash player, and he hopes it will be available next month (February 2017). I am working from memory here, so please don't flame me.

Shortly after Jeff's post, my wife and I were out for a week's cruise, so I decided to load one of the other apps that use AC data. I chose Plan2Nav, on the recommendation of a friend. Could not get registered so the app would work, despite much effort. I found a thread where several people had the same issue with Plan2Nav.

With that level of hassle, we decided to just use our cell phones to surf the main AC site, as we were on the ICW. Hope AC gets the app fixed soon.

Re: Active Captain on Android

Chris, SFS,

Thanks for the reply - I thought the AC app showed this information - I guess I'll wait until Feb/March and see if Jeff has an update (it's winter here)... unless someone posts a suggestion on a free app which shows this information.

Geoff.
