Google Earth is built from information that is available from a broad range of sources, including commercial and public sources. For example, this same information is available to anyone who flies over or drives by a piece of property.

Please note that as we acquire our data from third-party sources and aggregate the original images, we're unable to delete any aerial or satellite imagery on request.
The imagery is acquired from various places. It is not all satellite imagery, according to Google. You used to be able to request image updates but they have discontinued that. You can however check to see when the imagery in your area of interest is going to be updated.

Re: Your boat from space - Google Maps

Funny thing but I looked up on the tablet (OpenCPN) and she is there ... then I looked up on our newest laptop (Firefox) ... and she is not!!!!! (sic!!!)

Clearly Google uploads different picture files depending on the device/aplication that connects!

BTW I wonder how long it will be before we can see our boats from the space in RT.

barnakiel, try dumping the buffer and reloading your local area. Should load the latest imagery.

Lo and behold there it was. It'd be fun to see how many others can find their boat from space. Please post your pictures if you do.
Sure can! Here's a shot of Lady Washington and Hawaiian_Chieftain docked in Coos Bay, Oregon.

Here's a shot of the Brig Pilgrim. We will be taking her out for a sail at the 31st Annual Toshiba Tall Ships Festival tomorrow.

Woo hoo!

How do I capture a piece of this picture
to post? And how do you put in an arrow?

Mine's the Catalina 30 alone in its slip.

We had a medical setback. Here is the boat under shrink wrap still on the hard. We plan to go there at the end of September.

Re: Your boat from space - Google Maps

Google did not have a shot of Panope so I dug up an aerial taken from my own plane.

Lower right. Dinghy floating near bow.

Google will tell you where it got the images, shows up in the bottom right corner. For a fair chunk of the Western world it will be Google sourced (they paid for the picture taking), but as you zoom out and/or move to places less traveled you'll see all kinds of other sources:

Re: Your boat from space - Google Maps

If Google has an image of your boat on google earth, it means you're not moving around as much as you should be. They'd never find us, we're constantly on the move.

Re: Your boat from space - Google Maps

hahahaha... I can find my boat on it's mooring and my dinghy at the slip... so I wasn't aboard... But they update the photos and sometimes I see her in water winter storage. So what??
