OK serious answer. Because many people don't feel comfortable in group situations. While many people see a forum on the internet as an anonymous venue, others don't.

In my case I brouse a lot of topics to learn or because the title sparked an interest, but I don't feel competent enough to add to, somebody has already made the points I would make, or it was just a passing interest.

As you will notice by my post count, I am not above commenting when I am so inclined.
