Hey Don, you look great. Forget what they say.

If I could I would change my username to my real name. I find when I try to hide from others, I end up hiding from myself and loose touch with who I am. By exposing myself, I reach a deeper understanding.

I can do a sun sight a whole lot quicker than I can post a picture on this evil one eyed god! Guess I'm just a grouchy old pirate!

Re: Why ?

Often, when I read a thread, I don't feel I could respond with anything that adds any new or better information to the OPs question.

Ditto. I hate saying the same thing.

Re: Why ?

Sometimes I am interested in the topic, but have nothing to say. Sometimes the header is interesting and the body of the discussion is not.

Re: Why ?

I'm fairly new to sailing and use the forum as a "learning opportunity". I've started my own threads asking questions on topics I've not found addressed and posted to threads I have specific professional knowledge to respond with. Other than that, my lack of "post productivity" is mostly about having the time to do it well. I hate just throwing words at the computer

Re: Why ?

I often will spend a great deal of time writing something out, then after the fifth preview, decided it really doesn't add anything to the conversation other than to confirm my own ignorance, and delete it. I would probably do better to delete them all, including this one...

It's a public service really. I keep myself occupied wasting my own time, while avoiding wasting your time reading it. The sacrifices I make for you all...

Re: Why ?

Although I'm a Navy Veteran and love boats I've never actually been on a sailboat. I'm looking forward to that day but it won't be very soon. I usually only comment if I have something constructive to add or it's something within my knowledge base (mechanical repair, wood work, automotive supplier quality). I don't want to add something unless I'm pretty sure it's something helpful. Welcome to the forum. I'm here to learn, and just as I wouldn't want a sailor telling me how to implement a lean manufacturing environment at my supplier I wouldn't want to tell a sailor which sail is best in which environment.

It depends on the thread. I have seen threads where a good technical question was posted, and folks who are not technically competent render wrong opinions. I have lurked and followed those threads and gotten a great education from some really smart people. My favorite thread was a few months back where someone who had (to my knowledge) never designed a boat was arguing with Bob Perry.

The Law of Averages works out - on average...
It's one of those immutable laws, like the conservation of angular momentum... (really!)
You will just have to try posting more to see what responses you get...Get your "n" up, so to speak...
