Re: When is a Captain not a Captain?

if the captain of the vessel is also the master of the vessel and his last name is bates, then he must be master bates.

I'm sure no one saw that one coming.

Re: When is a Captain not a Captain?

So I called up the Captain,
"Please bring me my wine"
He said, "We haven't had that spirit here since nineteen sixty nine"

Great! Because of this thread I finally figured out who he was talking about.

Re: When is a Captain not a Captain?

If someone introduced his self as something like "Captain Bill," I'd be inclined to respond as "Captain Pierce."

And the deckhand who is good at putting bait on your hook is the master...

Look at all the fuss about when you're a captain or not. Play nice children. You only live once so go at it head first, foot to the floor, hair straight back.

Re: When is a Captain not a Captain?

Yeah what ever. For years I was an apprentice baiter on a commercial fishing boat, I worked and studied hard for years and years, and finally got my master's license.
