If you don't mind me asking, where were those photos taken?

Re: What happens to all the wannabees?
youth - read many books about sea going adventures. Discovered the likes of Hornblower and Aubrey. Decided one day I would sail. Status: Dreamer
young adulthood - Career minded. Date many women. Mention dreams of sailing and watch relationships collapse. Decide I'll never get married. Make money while looking at boat classified and reading Moitessier. Status: Angry dreamer
Last 5 years - Meet gal that I believe shares an adventurous heart. Get married. Make first posts on CF ( http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ana-26045.html). Buy a boat. Replace a diesel engine. Gut all wiring and rewire a boat. Start racing at the local yacht clubs. About to start rigging project. Status: Wannabee
In about 3 years - Hope to cut the lines and go. We have a budget, we have numbers, we have a plan. Isn't that the difference between a dream and a goal??? -> A plan. But if we don't make it, I'll come back here on the this thread and let you all know. :P

Of course, if Ex-Calif adds a couple of posts you're almost there already!
Wannabees get the idea from CF that they could do this thing.
Aftre a couple of years making pointless, half-witted comments, they ignore the good advice and go out and buy a boat that has tons of bells and whistles, most of which are on the point of useless so need work, is way too big, far from home so they have no choice but to fix the damn thing up and sail it back if they ever want to see their kids again!
They now have little time to spend with all their old buddies on CF because they're working their butts off.
But they're still around because they learned in their wannabe years that there is no better place to get really helpful, willing advice from supportive folk who have a wealth of experience.
So that's where the wannabes end up!
Vic.
PS. Ex-Calif, your posts are treasures...
|
yeah! 2 more pages since this avo, whilst i've been off rebuilding the mackwester, that i so wannabee sailing before it freezes over here!
vic think of it this way....it is only the kids inheritance you are spending!
and im sure they would rather you be happy, and swanning around the carib and pacific islands, whilst they sit at home eating pot noodles and play on the xbox,i know mine would only notice that we had gone after a few days when the fridge is empty.......
having refitted a few boats in the tropic's,the benefits are enourmous, last one i did i sweated off 15kilos in 3months!
you will be running around like a spring chicken in no time, lean, mean and fit from you new llife of fixing boat in exotic locations!

Re: What happens to all the wannabees?
i learned the answer to where do the wannabes go--they become desk jocks and badmouth the cruisers out there doing it and call their pix fotochopped..LOL...they can be be nasty lil children....many are decent folks, but i think jellusy gets many of the smaller heads and makes em say bad things.

I should also add that I find it disgusting that the US Military did not clean up their mess after they vacated in 1979...

I really hope you're not too upset by my hanging out here and picking you folks brains.
And yes, I really want to be, so I guess that makes me a wannabee.
