We had a cold front today, its supposed to get down to 42 tonight, been sailing three times this year.

Sweet, I am speculating that yesterday you probably didn't sail as long as you normally do. Probably only sailed for a couple hours. Right? I suppose only a couple hours again today. Although with the right clothing it would be down right comfortable out there.

LS - boats not even in the water yet We are supposed to be launched next week. We had slotted this weekend to get our washing and waxing out of the way before we splash. Now they are saying showers and 40's and 50's all weekend. In all my years of boat ownership, I have never waxed the topsides with a parka on.

Sleet and snow again today. We had hoped to move on our boat May 1st... which would have been doable I most years... now in short term airbnb rental while we wait for a break.

Is this beginning to affect your schedule for heading south? You're a year a head of us, and this weather now has me seriously wondering if we should plan to move the boat to the southern Great Lakes the first year (2014), and then making the run out the St. Lawrence the next (2015).

Yes, this late start makes our plans harder. The weather forecasts this spring have been more unreliable than usual, so I think we are going to need to be especially careful on Lake Superior.

We are going to cut across to New York using the Erie Canal.

There is another boat (Nokomis) that left Duluth in 2011 and went out the St Lawrence seaway. However, they spent 2011 getting through the great lakes and left their boat on the east end of Lake Erie in the fall of 2011 then picked up their trip again in May 2012.

Our boat was dropped in the water yesterday and it's sitting in the slip right now after seven months in the winter yard. Launch day is always one of the happiest days of the year, but today instead of washing and scrubbing and testing every light and switch, it's sleeting and 36 degrees F. The planet must be drifting toward Pluto, perpetual winter.

Not to wish bad luck on anyone but I hope the snow & ice up north takes a long while to melt. I'am using the marinas pontoon to get to my dock. Been raining for almost 2 days & the river has started to rise again.

Our water drains into Lake Superior, so you should be fine River Cruiser. Lots of snow so maybe good for the Great Lakes downstream?

It's been at or over 20 degrees C in the Toronto area every day since May 1 .

Water level in the lower Great Lakes this spring is low for this time of year.

Ugh...I agree. Still 1-2 foot of ice on the lake here. In fact, they are still out there ice fishing! The ocean is calling me........

I think Spring is finally upon us here on Lake Superior. Granted, two feet of snow fell while I scraped the bottom two weeks ago, and there were half a dozen squalls with sleet and snow while I painted the bottom yesterday... BUT... the ice is out and our boat goes in the water tomorrow. Beautiful Lake Superior beckons. The suffering is over!

That gives me hope. We're still weeks away I think. But spring must come ... eventually.
