Re: Wasp Spray - The Almost Perfect Solution

On the subject of Animals I kid you not; when I lived in Tortola BVI's there was a chap on an old wooden ketch that actually had a Goose on deck!
He said it was the best watch dog (Plse' no comment about Poultry) he ever had and inexpensive to keep.

Anyone else heard of this?

Re: Wasp Spray - The Almost Perfect Solution

I had a friend with a couple of geese and they are tough as hell and meaner than snakes.

Re: Wasp Spray - The Almost Perfect Solution

I once lived on a farm with a flock of geese and all the children and dogs and cats were terrified of them. Not the bull or anything else but the geese. They would attack anything shorter than them that got too close, and the hissing was scary. I saw them chase some little kids screaming more than once. They roast nice though....

While eating a much loved honking pet may seem repulsive, I guess that in a dire emergency one could show no more love than enjoying a loved one albeit roasted..However,'' from what I've read about them, any forewarning of the pending roasting may be considered imprudent!

Not knowing much about them, does one need to sharpen the Pecker?

Re: Wasp Spray - The Almost Perfect Solution

Eventually we ended up eating my friend's geese (I should say cooking them) they were so tough you could not bite off a piece. They weren't afraid of anything that I ever saw including wolf cross huskies which are notorious chicken eaters. Lots of noise and run right up and peck you on the shin.

Re: Wasp Spray - The Almost Perfect Solution

My recollection is that geese were used during the Vietnam war around bridges to provide reliable warning of Viet Cong sappers trying to sneak in and place explosives under the bridge. Geese are often indiscriminately and persistently aggressive, they are often very noisy, and they will likely make a mess of the deck since they are confined in a relatively small space on a boat. My gf is still afraid of them having been attacked as a child.

Perhaps some of the noted disadvantages could be mitigated by keeping it/them on a small raft tethered to the boat while anchored and caged while under way.

No geese, thank you. I was chased one too many times on top of our old car by our neighbor's geese. My luck they would chase ME instead of the bad guy & I'd bee in the water or up the mast! Gimme a tazer or pepper spray.

How 'bout a 3-D hologram of Chuck Norris? Geese take off their feathers and jump in the pot when they see him.

Re: Wasp Spray - The Almost Perfect Solution

I would think that after a days of cleaning the goose crap off the boat and having to listen to them..............you would be wishing for someone to rob you and steal the geese!
