On a boat they are called HIN (hull identification number). They weren’t required of manufacturers until 1972 I think. So there may not be one on your boat, although some manufacturers started imprinting them sooner. If there is one on your boat it should be on the transom near the top right side. Perhaps some Columbia owners will chip in with better info about when Columbia started imprinting HINs.
