USCG Transfer of Title

Hi Everyone

Just wanting to check as a “foreigner” (I am a US citizen, but havent been there for 45 years so not familiar with the processes).

My boat partner and I purchased a yacht close on a year ago. However searches of the USCG database and the NOAA fisheries website still indicate the vessel under its old name and port, so it appears that the transfer has not taken place yet.

Is anybody else also experiencing such a long period to officially have the titles changed?

Reinhardt

Re: USCG Transfer of Title

Was the paperwork properly filed when you bought it?

Anecdotally, I was involved in the delivery of a foreigner purchased vessel a few years ago. The final transfer of title took a few months, but thats just one case.

In the end no one here can definitively answer you question. Contact NVDC, they are usually quite helpful.

Yes we have back in May, status still hasnt changed.

I am not looking for a definitive answer- I am trying to establish if most people have been experiencing the same type of delays.

I've been waiting since the end of May for USCG Documentation with name change.

Re: USCG Transfer of Title

Did mine in April and received the USCG Documentation about a week ago.

Curiously my name does not show up in the USCG database when I looked just now.

You can go here and see what the current date of paperwork is being processed for your type of documentation.

https://content.govdelivery.com/acco...letins/25fb8ee

I looks to be May 1st for an exchange

Give the USCG documentation center a call. They are extremely cooperative/responsive based on my first-hand experience.

There is also a link where you can check paperwork status on the NVDC site.

Re: USCG Transfer of Title

NVDC issued a bulletin last July that there would be a significant delay in processing paperwork due to an IT problem. See, https://content.govdelivery.com/acco...letins/2505e56. The notice is also on their main page.

Re: USCG Transfer of Title

Calling and emailing NVDC has been unresponsive. The call ctr says to go online and online it says to contact the webmaster. Recreational renewals are backed up to May 1st. My documentation has expired this past December.

So my question is, can I travel to the Bahamas without a current COD? And can I return to the states?

Re: USCG Transfer of Title

The webmaster got back to me so I’ll post it here to help others.

The USCG suspended issuance of the Temporary COD in 2015. But, Recreational Vessels (Recreational Endorsement) Vessel(s) with an expired COD that actively engage in recreational use shall not be subject to COD related enforcement action, provided the vessel owner can present evidence that the renewal application was submitted to the NVDC.

Re: USCG Transfer of Title

Interesting, but not terribly helpful if you are sailing internationally and customs wants to see your papaers.
