Re: Urgent help needed to recover abandoned yacht NW Barbados

There may be a few forum members (not me) highly experienced in plot and drift calcs who could provide you with additional drift models. My suggestion is you can readily trust and PM with any member 50+ posts. The odds of them being in the offshore boat recovery business and waiting here for this "opportunity" are massively lower than the odds of forum members helping you, discreetly, and your improving location estimates. If anyone can offer to help AWW out please do.

A bump from barnakiel too.

I hope you will recover your ship and sail many happy miles on her!

If she is headed for Antigua, you can also make sound attempts to reach her from Martinique, Guadeloupe, etc. It is easier and faster to sail a reach than a beat.

Good luck!

Cheers,
b.

Just so the OP knows... If you miss the window to alter your post, generally the mods will ask you to write another post clarifying whatever is wrong that you need to alter...

So... please write a post that explains what you need to alter.

Sorry do you really think I would take my family across the Atlantic on a 5 grand boat :-/

It was intended to put salvagers off

Ya didn't see his wink ;-)

Also the description of his attempts to recover were pretty impressive for someone owning a $5k boat

Actually you just parked it with the motor running while you get your kit for the repairs. Not abandoned so I don't think salvagers would have much of a case.

Re: Urgent help needed to recover abandoned yacht NW Barbados

Hi. A very hard and heartfelt story. You have clearly done your best and kept everyone safe. Well done in most difficult times.
I can't fly north from Australia, but I can assist others with at short notice in my hemisphere. I suggest locating the vessel first of course and engaging a tow / escort depending on the conditions. Go anywhere the wind allows.
This is where CF truly comes into it's own. Everyone rally to assist, please. Best wishes and care. A.

Oops me. I respect emergency and sea recovery requests seriously. If this is a Christmas game it is not funny. I am in Australia with some time lag maybe on site postings. Please keep nice everyone in a (reported / possible) crisis. A.

Hi,

Just an update, there is nothing new on the satellite AIS this morning. I'll keep an eye on it.

Re: Urgent help needed to recover abandoned yacht NW Barbados

Gentle people.

We do not know what the outcome of this ongoing situation will be and I know we all wish for a happy ending.

What is apparent though in real terms, is the help from all the rescue services, commercial vessels and private sailors in the area when the problems occurred. Without the selflessness displayed on the part of everyone, there could have had a different outcome.

A heartfelt thanks and a salute to everyone involved for your unstinting support and kindness and time in aiding the family and for just being the hope of each one of us if we need you in the future.

Thank you.

Re: Urgent help needed to recover abandoned yacht NW Barbados

Hopefully there is some momentum gaining in the location and recovery efforts after the holiday.... Looks like there are a few excellent offers to help, and avenues to pursue...

allwentwrong, let us know if your temp hotmail is working, and take another deep breath... More often than not, these things tend to have better outcomes than visualized...

Good luck!
