Transporting a liferaft across the border

I have just purchased a sailboat in Mexico and would like to remove the expired liferaft and haul it by car back across the border to the United States for recertification. Does anyone know or have any experience with doing this? I don't want to get to the border and find out that there would be problems (inspection-wise) about taking across the border
