Re: Through the Delaware Canal or outside?

Just remember that the bridge height in the Cape May Canal is 55.' If you're over that, you can still stop in Cape May, but you have to go around and approach it from the east.

Reedy Island is a good Anchorage. OR....if you want a dock for overnight youn call Delaware City Marina. Fuel, water, the owner (Tim) will give you tide information and suggestions about your run down the bay. A couple of restaurants in town including Crabby Dicks which has a patio on the river.

Re: Through the Delaware Canal or outside?

We’ve done the Delaware over 50 roundtrips. The key is CURRENT. We are also proponents of when going to Cape May anchoring behind Reedy Island and leaving 1.5 hours before the CURRENT switches to ebb. You can ride it to Almost Cape May. When heading north if you follow the same tactic except 1.5 hours before Flood at Miah Maul Light. You can ride it through the C&D into the Chesapeake.

Yes I would invest in the current charts , but better yet, get the Navionics Ap for you phone, I pad or tablet. Navionics currents overlay program is easy to read, understand, can be made point specific and can move back and forth on dates easily for planning.

My experience of the Delaware is not to worry about trash, however the dreaded state bird of NJ the “greenhead fly”. They bite till they die and are unlike any fly you have ever dealt with

Re: Through the Delaware Canal or outside?

Thanks; this could be useful.
But it's not obvious to me from the site, which way is flooding and which way is the ebb?

Re: Through the Delaware Canal or outside?

Take note cape May bridges are NOT 55 ft at high tide I think they are 53. I went through a month ago and there were no tide boards.
