Also the reason I would not and did not do the Haha. That and it's a silly name anyways .
Skiprjohn and I made the decision to stay in Ensenada until Wednesday, the 6th. We could have left today and ran like "smoke and oak", but what's the point. Who needs the anxiety.
Here are the Passageweather models we made our decision on...

Re: The 2013 HaHa is threading a needle this time around
I spent about a month getting from Ensenada to Banderas Bay. I was waiting for "goldielocks" weather. A week in Turtle Bay, a few days in Santa Maria, a few days in Cabo San Lucas.

In 2009, I sailed between 2 Tropical Depressions...Boris and Douglass. The freaking boom ripped otta da freakin mast on my Ingrid 38. A 28,000lbs. full keel destroyer. You bet I look for goldielock weather now!

Re: The 2013 HaHa is threading a needle this time around
The last time we sailed down the coast to Panama to cross to Louisiana, we sailed offshore about 90 to 100 NM from the Baha Ha Ha. All I remember is the constant radio chatter on both VHF and SSB LOL They are good for some laughs ! LOL I remember Connie sayin " why do they want to take so long to get to Cabo? the weather is great and we will get there at least 4 or 5 days before they do?? " I told her that I guessed they needed the company to make the trip!! We have never done group trips like this, I guess because we are seldom drinkers, I don't know but I believe it's becuse we like to anchor alone if possible !! LOL No loud noise makes for better sleep !!

I think they are highly social and love the parties and different events..sounds like fun! On a couple of occasions we chose to miss out on the fun as well but I understand the attraction.

Re: The 2013 HaHa is threading a needle this time around
as far as i can see, baja haha is a great event for drinkers. i am not one.
it is also a great time for new sailing souls to get out and do something, and for old ones to have company when sailing.
i dont do company when sailing, except on my own boat.
another reason why i left in an april instead of with group of drinkers looking for entertainment and excitement as opposed to a full time cruising lifestyle.
many haha-ers do go on to puddlejump an d salvador rally..all group events in some way ..and party together while in ports.
some of my friends did haha..they said they probably would do it again....some of my friends did haha 5-6 times....
different strokes and all that....

Re: The 2013 HaHa is threading a needle this time around
Something we have noticed over the years: When folks who have been involved with mass "cruises" like the Haha and its followup events eventually move on to the South Pacific they tend to be somewhat insular, preferring to socialize with their little group of fellow travellers. While this is ok, they often fail to meet and interact with locals, both land dwellers and local sailors. They thus miss out on what has been the best part of the cruising life for us -- having meaningful relationships with people from diverse cultures and societies. It is their choice and their loss, and we've often felt sorry for them.
I hope that the current Hahaers have a great time and come to no grief with the wx.
Cheers,
Jim

Re: The 2013 HaHa is threading a needle this time around
the low following sonia will prolly not become anything for over 4 days. it will come here to sit for a few, and since the ocean temps are dropping nicely, there should be nothing come of these late season post sonia lows...the monsoonal trough is flowing nicely right by us, so we will continue to have low pressure areas for some time yet.
papagayos from central america will bring lows across, but they shouldnt be developing into anything this late, as water temp is not conducive to their growth and development. it would be most unusual for this following low to develop.
eebmike showed the second low following sonia. was from nhc site

For us waiting, it's the swell that is generated. We also have a front coming from the North down on us too. We leave Wed. for Turtle Bay.

Are you going to split between Cedros and Natividad? If the weather is up in the Dewey Channel there (off Point Eugenia) you will probably think you plotted wrong and ended up in San Francisco.
QUALITY fishing around there though, at least there was for me. I think Steve on Landfall nailed some good stuff too.

Rebel...Are you saying we should go outside Cedros? I think if we needed to duck in somewhere, the anchorages are on the inside of Cedros.

I've had the link for a long time. I don't remember where I got it, but I look at it at least once a day.
Another one I like is
SailFlow
You can zoom in on anywhere you like, bookmark it and see if it's worth going for a sail etc.
