That'll Buff Right Out

Saw this thing sitting here in Puerto Escondido. Owner is MIA. Apparently it's been sitting there for years. Owner never did anything to stop the leaks, the solar panel was able to keep up with the bilge pump until it wasn't.

I made a little video of it with an underwater camera as well.

Is this what they mean about the value being under water?

Re: That'll Buff Right Out

Escondido is a popular place to lay boats to rest.

I hope the owner understands that without an oxygen rich environment ... All of his stainless prone to accelerated corrosion...

They are probably going to be disappointed upon their return....

Re: That'll Buff Right Out

Except that the boat's location intrigues me. Am I not seeing the whole picture? Looks like an odd place (and orientation) to sink. (seems inappropriate for "leaving" an extended time ...)

Escondido is a "unique place",or was.Things are changing there now, with new development and marina going into the ellipse(where boat lays sunk).

It's still pretty weird. We've been here for over a month now. A lot of the plans that were going strong circa 2006 fell apart with the global recession and no one's rushed in to fix it.

The ferry terminal they built broke. I asked a guy what happened and he shrugged and said, "The ferry never came."

It seems like this place is still waiting for 2006 to show back up again, but in the mean time 7 years of deferred maintenance have accumulated and while bigbox shops have bought up land it's relatively cheap to do so and they may never exercise anything further.

We're happily leaving in a few days. Great place to weather the cyclones but the Mexican government really screwed this place up with their unfunded and misguided master plans.

What part were they building? There's the "mosquito marina" which looks pretty new but 90% of the place still looks like Beirut. So right next to the marina (which has no power), there's this gem:

Re: That'll Buff Right Out

It's been typical in Mexico for a long time. They build things and no one comes. When I was there years ago they were building a nice seawall/walkway along the water in Loreto (nearby) They hadnt finished yet, but were probably 80% done. Meanwhile the whole thing was crumbling on the end they started with. I was told it was due to using salt water in their cement. (unconfirmed)

Rebel: Have you taken the hike up the arroyo in the hills to the west? very nice day hike. Watch for snakes!
