Thank You estarzinger!

Just wanted to formerly give some recognition to someone who I feel deserves it.

Last summer during a transatlantic delivery, I found myself to be the unanticipated recipient of Evan's gracious information sharing when I repaired a broken running backstay on an IOR older boat by using the EStar stopper knot which I found online while in Horta, where no suitable replacement could be had.

The failed part was a swagged ball fitting on coated wire that fell through a hole in the upper spreader base which I replaced by dropping down some small sized dyneema and a stainless washer which I backed up with Evan's stopper knot.

I can't speak over the long term but no obvious chaff was detected and I believe it to have been an effective and expedient solution that may become permanent. Sorry I don't have photos.

Thank you estarzinger!

Re: Thank You estarzinger!

It was funny. We were sitting in Peter Cafe Sport using the free wifi and I searched "dyneema stopper" and Evans knot was the first hit.

I was like wait a minute, I know who that guy is. Perfect solution to my problem. Tied one with a bit of line in my pocket on the spot. I only brought it up because I saw the knot mentioned elsewhere on a different thread and realized my thanks were overdue.

Thanks Again!

Re: Thank You estarzinger!

This is a great post. It makes me thankful for the internet and for those who post useful information to help the rest of us. It's also crazy to imagine how the old salts did it since the first web site will be turning 25 only next year. My boat is older than that!

GOOD GOD you used a EStar instead of a MOnkey knot or Alpine Butternut Knit??
