SUNDOLL HERE NEED ADVICE

Ok.... my dream project, bought a 1964 Chris Craft Constellation 65ft wood hull motoryacht we will be hauling the boat to repair the bottom.... Question what is the best type of wood planks to use I believe the hull is mahogany will find out more once we go pick up? And we will be putting cotton in the seams so second question is what is the best compounds to use to seal the underwater Planks? And what paint do you think is best for the bottom of the boat.... Always owned a fiberglass boat so this will definitely be a learning experience... Please give me any advise no negative comments negativity does not help and I have heard enough of them! I like a challenge.... Thank you Sundoll

Re: SUNDOLL HERE NEED ADVICE

1) Hire a professional.
2) Find a Mentor, in your yard/marina.
3) Go to the Wooden Boat Forums
4) Let everything dry. Pull the planks & spline them together. Refasten. Sheath double diagonally with veneers. Epoxy & paint.

Oh my

The best bottom paint to use would be copper bronze, in my opinion.

Paying cotton into the seams is an art in and of itself and you should use an accompanying seam compound that will squeeze out towards the surface of the plank as swelling occurs. Being double diagonal construction on the hull bottom. Battened seam on the hullsides. If memory serves.

My advice would be to get some wood boat expert recommendations for the blocking of the keel at the haulout.

Do you have a site dedicated to the boat repairs ?
