Spring Fuel filter replacement

I generally change oil and belts and such in the fall and then replace the fuel filters in the spring. Should i run my engine prior to replacing the filters to let the settled crud get int the old filter?

Fuel filters?
No if there is crud in the cup itís not likely to move into the filter, if it did then the filter body isnít well designed, cause then the cup isnít doing its job.

Re: Spring Fuel filter replacement

I was thinking more of the crud at the bottom of the gas tank

That isnít going to move just from you running your engine.
If there is crud maybe you need to get it out.

Usually a dip tube is at least an inch off of the bottom, running your engine will draw a few gallons of fuel an hour through that tube, engine will burn a little and most is returned to the tank.
Itís nowhere near enough volume to stir the tank at all.
Going sailing with the tank half full may well stir things though.

Re: Spring Fuel filter replacement

fuel tank isn't like your oil sump which is designed to move the oil into the engine so therefore all of it goes in motion when you run the engine. Fuel just sits where it sits.

Re: Spring Fuel filter replacement

Is there a way to insert some kind of tube reaching the very bottom of the tank and suck off the sludge/deposit which have accumulated there?

Gas or diesel?

With gas, solids are generally pretty trivial. Bugs can't grow.

With ethanol gas water tends to be all (separated) or nothing (fresh gas sucks up minor water).
