Solo Sailing Races (Circumnavigation and others)

Hello!

I'm trying to locate a list of solo sailing races that I want to look at getting involved in someday. I'm actually having a hard time locating potential races online. I have a 37' cutter, so I assume I could get into a 40' or under race.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

Re: Solo Sailing Races (Circumnavigation and others)

G'Day Phaser,

I'm not really plugged into this world any more, but I'm not aware of any serious singlehand races oriented towards traditional cruising boats like your Rafiki. Nowadays they tend to be organized for all out racers, all the way from the Mini Transat to the Open 60's of the BOC (or whatever the hell they call that race these days!).

On a somewhat less extreme level, the Singlehand Sailing Society in SF Bay runs a number of inshore races each year, plus the Singlehand Transpac every other year. They use (IIRC) PHRF ratings, and there are boats of all descriptions entered. They have a website, and I would recommend that you peruse it... if you haven't already done so. I've been out of the SH racing scene for over twenty years (oops. make that thirty years!), but still remember how rewarding it was for me. So, good luck with your efforts.

Cheers,

Jim

You could try the Jester Challenge.. its meant to be restricted to boats under 30ft.. however.. often larger boats are allowed to enter as 'Guests'...
No big Cash Prize or Trophy.. just a good old fashioned 'Gentleman's Race' with the 'Its not the winning.. its the taking part that counts' philosophy..
They race Plymouth-Azores and Plymouth-USA alternate years..
Should add.. none of the commercialism of the ARC's.. nor the inspections etc.. if you think your boat can do it.. that's good enough..
