Signed sealed and delivered.

You are correct about Lake County. I had a friend who was in the department in this county and h ad a number of occasions to encounter these people at parties and such.

Pretty revolting crowd.

And from what I heard from my friend it was worse at work. He no longer lives/works there.

I may be wrong, but my understanding is that maritime law states that the boat under sail has the right of way over all boats under power. Is that correct? And if so, doesn't that put the powerboat operator in the wrong?
-Bruce
Yes and yes.

and incidentally, tihe boat was proceeeding in an orderly and very slow manner, in no way caused the situation. Everyone on the boat could have been stone cold sober and they would have been hit just as recklessly.

Lights on the boat were noted by numerous shore witnesses.

Re: Sign the petition to prosecute the Lake County Sheriff that killed the sailor

Sara,

I think I told you the story of when I was last cruising in the Sea of Cortez, one of the cruisers was retired LEO and he figured "professional courtesy" would be extended to him by Mexican LEO, boy was he wrong. Unlike here in the States, when stopped for speeding or other infraction like driving on the shoulder when traffic is backed up from an accident, LEO off duty in their own cars just flash their ID and no ticket. Well this LEO cruiser in Mexico doesn't know of all the stories of poor treatment in the States of Mexicans by our LEO, so needless to say being LEO from the North buys you nothing south of the border. He was caught with handguns and instead of paying what the police was asking for, he flashed his badge. That didn't work, so he insisted on seeing the watch commander and they hauled his ass in. He didn't get out for a few days, a couple of hundred dollars poorer, and lost his guns. This guy was so mad that most of us just avoided him. He really thought he was wronged.

Re: Sign the petition to prosecute the Lake County Sheriff that killed the sailor

There's another person in need of prosecution in this case - the DA. How anyone could study the facts of the case, and conclude that only the sailboat helmsman was to blame, is baffling to me. At best he's monumentally incompetent, at worse corrupt. Either way I'd like to see at least a civil case against him, and I'd like to see it succeed.

In an ideal world the DA and Perdock are in prison. Maybe there's another dimension where that happened. Sure hope so.

Re: Sign the petition to prosecute the Lake County Sheriff that killed the sailor

Maybe just karma. Over my lifetime I have witnessed the good old boy network so much that now when I'm having trouble deciding on which way to vote on a state proposition, if it is supported by law enforcement, then I know to vote against it.

I signed this petition over a year ago on SA. It has taken THIS long to gain 1000 signatures? What is wrong with people?

Probably just a case of "It doesn't effect me" combined with "Law enforcement are the good guys and always right".
